Baraja: “The Copa del Rey excites us”
The Valencia CF coach talks about the match against CP Parla Escuela-Fair Play
One of the Valencia CF's most prominent representatives in the international team break has been Hugo Guillamón.
The versatile midfielder and defender made his first start for the Spain national team on Tuesday night, following on from his debut -under extenuating circumstances- a few months ago against Lithuania.
Playing as a central defender against Iceland, his performance was praised by coach Luis Enrique after the game.
Guillamón spoke to VCF Media Radio the day following the fixture, sharing his views on the game.
His true debut
Yesterday was a very special day for me, for my family and for my friends.
I am very happy with how it went, with how the team performed, with the victory and that the fans enjoyed it.
There were questions remaining about that game against Lithuania, which officially counted as a cap, but was under unique conditions. In the end, it was the entire Under-21s side in that game, and yesterday was the real debut.
I'm happy to have had the opportunity, and with the support of my teammates, who from day one made it very easy for me. It was a very nice day.
His pass for a goal
It was a good move. Carlos Soler also helped a lot. He saw well how Alvaro Morata was coming into the box..
Confidence from the coach
Luis Enrique told me to stay calm and do what I had been doing at Valencia CF. He told me that he trusted me.
Praise in the press conference
For the coach to talk about you like that gives you a lot of confidence. Not only was it the case yesterday, but in all the training sessions beforehand. He was clear about what he wanted from me. It went very well both with him and with the rest of the coaching staff.
Being an example for the VCF Academy
It is clear that playing in the national team gives extra motivation for the kids at the VCF Academy. When I was little, I watched Valencia CF players playing for the national team and I dreamed of getting the opportunity to be in those games.
Support from his parents
They are also part of this. They have always been there for me, since childhood. These moments are also special for them.
